What’s on your mind?

Posted: April 13, 2009 in Art and Business, My Life as an Artist, Uncategorized

Down from the sugar highs of yesterday, what have you been thinking about? My day was spent running errands, updating websites (and now my blog), and other marketing and publicity duties. Being an artist is much like having a full time job. Oh, wait a minute…

Really? Not everyone sees the artist as a business person. Sometimes, not even the artist sees it that way. However, if we are likely to survive in these times, or any other time, it is about time we spend the time brushing up on marketing skills. But who has time for that? I sure don’t.  Thank goodness I have spent the last twenty years of my career promoting other companies by designing everything from newsletters to cars.  Then contacting the media when a new version was available. Not to mention, I have been doing all this on a macintosh (and yes, it does help).

So, if you have a business, no matter how big or small, take every bit of down time you have and update your website, brush up on your marketing skills and freshen your image. Your mother (and your customers) will love you for it…
